Including part of the indigenous tribe Zenu. The village was founded in the year 1560 and at the time was mainly used for slave trade. Since the 1970s, however, Cove\u00f1as has been a popular resort for Colombians seeking sun, sea and beach. for weeks. There is something for everyone. Ask at your hotel or apartment where the boat leaves. Or drive to Tol\u00fa and take the boat there, which is also close by.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Not so touristy yet<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cove\u00f1as is popular among Colombian tourists and during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.besabine.com\/en\/best-travel-time-colombia-by-colombian-vacations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Colombian high season and <em>puentes<\/em><\/strong><\/a> completely full. However, if you come outside this time, you will have the beach more or less to yourself. This in contrast to nearby and more famous Tol\u00fa.<\/p>\n<h3>Beautiful sunsets on the beach<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Whether you are in the sea or on your balcony, the sunset is stunningly beautiful. Of course the beautiful sea and and beaches, but there are also palm trees everywhere and the pelicans almost literally fly around your ears. Due to its popularity among Colombian tourists, many <strong>apartment complexes<\/strong> were build in recent years. So it is full of apartments and hotels right by the sea. Personally, I don&#8217;t like that much, but I found Cove\u00f1as a particularly nice place to stay. I will certainly come back one day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By the way, this does not mean that Cove\u00f1as is a big beach town full of shopping malls. In contrast, Cove\u00f1as is a small village so you won&#8217;t find things like big stores or luxury products.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition, Cove\u00f1as is also <strong>not (yet) a backpackers paradise<\/strong>, not like, for example <a href=\"https:\/\/www.besabine.com\/en\/palomino-colombia-la-guajira\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Palomino<\/strong><\/a>. Cove\u00f1as Colombia<\/h2>\n<hr>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">How to get to Cove\u00f1as?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Cove\u00f1as is easily accessible from several angles.<\/p>\n<h4>From Monter\u00eda<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Are you in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.besabine.com\/en\/discover-monteria-colombia-walk-through-the-jungle-in-the-middle-of-the-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Monter\u00eda<\/strong><\/a> for a city break? Or because it was the cheapest option for a domestic flight? From here you can take a direct bus to Cove\u00f1as. Or, as we did, by cab (ask at your hotel for a reliable driver who can take and pick you up). The former is obviously cheaper. Ask in your accommodation where exactly the bus leaves. You can take the bus to Cove\u00f1as or to Tol\u00fa, which passes by. Of course, you can also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.besabine.com\/en\/renting-a-car-in-colombia-to-do-or-not-to-do-fun-routes-tips-traffic-rules-and-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>rent a car<\/strong><\/a> and drive yourself. The ride takes about 2 hours.<\/p>\n<h4>From Tol\u00fa<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tol\u00fa is a popular destination and you can also fly here with a domestic flight. From Tol\u00fa, it is about a 20- to 30-minute drive to Cove\u00f1as. Many buses go there and you can also take the bus to Monter\u00eda, which comes through Cove\u00f1as. Look carefully at where along the route your hotel is and get off there. You can also rent a car here.<\/p>\n<h4>From Sincelejo<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Then you can also fly to Sincelejo and take a bus or cab from there to Cove\u00f1as. Again, look for a reliable cab driver.<\/p>\n<h4>From Cartagena<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And finally: from beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.besabine.com\/en\/tag\/cartagena-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Cartagena<\/strong><\/a>. A bus ride to Cove\u00f1as takes about 4 hours, making it perfect if you are passing Cove\u00f1as on your itinerary Colombia. For example, from Cartagena to Monter\u00eda and then toward Medell\u00edn. The best area to stay is the first <em>ensenada<\/em><em>(la primera ensenada<\/em>). There the beaches are nicer, quieter and with fewer vendors. Ask the hotel you have in mind for the ensenada where the hotel is located. My recommendation below is located in the first <em>ensenada<\/em>. By the way, you can easily walk from ensenada 3 to 1 if you would like.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Book a beachfront hotel or apartment<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cove\u00f1as is full of hotels and apartments and the occasional hostel. We stayed at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/covenas360\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Cove\u00f1as 360<\/strong><\/a>. Click on the link for a phone number to contact. We were in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B53O5NFFMu4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>this apartment<\/strong><\/a> on the eighth floor with an insane view of Cove\u00f1as and the beach. It is not a cheap place, but fully equipped with kitchen and large balcony and you can stay there with 8 people (but also with two, then it is more expensive per person).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The apartment complex has its own swimming pool and a private stretch of beach. Restaurants are close by. It was a wonderful place, really recommended.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Then there are cheaper options, hotels and the occasional hostel, you can find these <a However, always keep in mind the general <a href=\"https:\/\/www.besabine.com\/en\/safety-colombia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>safety recommendations for Colombia<\/strong><\/a> . Also, don&#8217;t leave expensive items unattended on the beach when you go swimming. In addition, here, as on other popular beaches in Colombia, you have vendors on the beach trying to sell you all sorts of things. This can be annoying, although it&#8217;s not as bad here as at other popular Colombian beaches.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Are you passing through to the south or just from the south to Cove\u00f1as in the north? On the Medell\u00edn &#8211; Monter\u00eda route, there is a dangerous stretch between Caucasia and Yarumal that you must pass. This is a very mountainous area where guerrillas are hidden. Although military is present, it is better to do this stretch only during the day or fly from Monter\u00eda to Medell\u00edn (or vice versa).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2>How does Cove\u00f1as fit into your round trip Colombia?<\/h2>\n<hr>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you live in Colombia or stay there longer, you can easily go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.besabine.com\/en\/discover-monteria-colombia-walk-through-the-jungle-in-the-middle-of-the-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Monter\u00eda<\/strong><\/a>, Tol\u00fa or Sincelejo for a beach holiday. If you are traveling around, it is better to take a different approach. As mentioned earlier, you can very well travel from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.besabine.com\/en\/parque-tayrona-a-paradise-on-the-caribbean-coast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Tayrona<\/strong><\/a> to Cartagena and on to Cove\u00f1as. After that, you can explore Monter\u00eda in a few days. From Monter\u00eda, you can then take a bus (during the day!) to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.besabine.com\/en\/category\/medellin-and-surroundings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Medell\u00edn<\/strong><\/a> to continue your journey through Colombia. Or fly from Monter\u00eda to your next destination (Medell\u00edn or Bogot\u00e1, for example).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can also do it the other way around: if you are on your way
