A taxi picks up my parents and me from the house in Sop\u00f3 where I was living at the time. It is the only cab driver in the village with a car that can handle this ride. That’s promising.<\/strong> The route via Pionono<\/a><\/strong> is familiar territory until we turn left. The beautifully paved road turns into a muddy track where we’re no longer driving, but sliding. Of course, today it’s raining cats and dogs… The car slides from left to right and back again. While my little dog Juaco is taking it all in stride, the three of us are sitting stiff with fear in the back seat, hoping we don’t slide off the mountain into the abyss. After a hellish ride, we finally arrive at our destination, where the taxi driver casually announces that he has no intention of coming back to pick us up on this road tomorrow.<\/strong> So there we are, in the middle of nowhere<\/em> somewhere in the Colombian mountains.
