During my train journey through Denmark, I made a stopover in Vejle, Southern Jutland, on the route from Hamburg to Skagen. Vejle turned out to be a pleasant town, with a very special hotel. Nothing special from the outside, but as soon as you walk in you enter a green oasis. It is green everywhere and there are plants and cacti everywhere. Yes, even in the hotel room. You would come to Vejle just for this hotel, really. And Vejle is also a good base for exploring the area, such as Legoland in Billund. In this article, I’ll tell you about The Note hotel in Vejle and what you can do in the town.

Special Hotel The Note in Vejle: a green oasis in Southern Jutland
Hotel The Note in Vejle is a special hotel, where you imagine yourself in the green. Not only are the walls painted green, but there are also plants and cacti everywhere. The hotel gives you a feeling of peace. It is a place where you not only come to rest physically, but the calmness of the plants and all the greenery also clears your head.
The Note has several common areas where you can sit and relax. As if you are in the forest in the city. They also have a large breakfast room with a beautiful view over Vejle. But more importantly: the breakfast is incredibly tasty and extensive. It is a buffet, so you can grab what you want.
Breakfast was included for me, but be aware that you often have to pay extra for it. It’s worth it in any case.
My hotel room was also decorated in green, with beautiful plants above my bed. I slept wonderfully…
The ‘breathing room’
And as if that wasn’t enough, there is also a ‘breathing room’. It is a small room full of plants and small trees, with quiet music, the sound of running water and fine seating areas. Walk through it, sit on a bench, and relax. Don’t forget to walk to the window for a beautiful view.
A place to close your eyes, meditate, read a book or listen to a podcast. Beautiful, isn’t it? The Note simply has a room where you can mentally go into airplane mode. And the great thing is: all hotel guests have access. Be sure to make use of it, I loved it there.
Hotel The Note practical information
I traveled alone and paid €97 euros for 1 night, including breakfast (which normally costs €20). I thought that was a great price for what you get, it is really a special hotel and wouldn’t have wanted to miss this.

What is there to do in Vejle?
I was only in Vejle for 1 day and night, purely as a stopover. But it turned out to be a very special town where I was able to do quite a lot in that one day. Everything is within walking distance from the hotel, including the station, perfect.
1. Vejle Art Museum
The Vejle Art Museum is located right next to the hotel The Note. Convenient. It is a beautiful museum aimed at making you think about life. The art in the museum focuses on everyday, recognizable themes for everyone. Art that addresses difficult questions from society. That makes the museum extra worth visiting.

2. Take a workshop in Smyk & Hyg
When I walked from the station to the hotel, I passed the café Smyk & Hyg. I love doing creative things, such as painting, ceramics and making jewelry. And you can make your own jewelry in this café.
After leaving my suitcase at the hotel, I walked back to Smyk & Hyg. I booked a workshop in the incredibly cozy and warm café and in about 1.5 hours I made my own necklace.
In Smyk & Hyg you can make your own necklace, bracelet or earrings. I really enjoyed doing it, the staff helped well and the tea was tasty. Highly recommended if you are in Vejle. You immediately have a nice personal souvenir from Denmark.

3. The windmill of Vejle
I have not been to the windmill of Vejle, but I did take a beautiful picture of the mill from the shopping street. With the cozy Christmas lights on the front.
The mill was built in 1890 and is a Dutch gallery mill of about 20 meters high. The mill stopped grinding in 1960, but it is still fun to visit. From the hill you would have a beautiful view over the city, the fjord and the valley.

4. Lunch in Lagkagehuset
I chose to have lunch in this restaurant because it looked so warm and cozy. With a beautiful view of Vejle Town Hall. My vegetarian sandwich was delicious and I got a huge cup of tea. Exactly what I needed.

5. Stroll through the shopping streets
Vejle has a car-free shopping area spread over the streets Søndergade, Torvegade, Nørregade and Vestergade. In other words: the gågade of Vejle. Wonderful to stroll through and go into a shop here and there. There are also several squares and beautiful side streets.
I was there during the Christmas period and it is extra cozy then.

How do you get to Vejle?
I visited Vejle during my 3-week train trip through Denmark, while travelling between Hamburg and Skagen. However, Vejle is quite centrally located, and you can easily get there by train from Aarhus or Aalborg — or, of course, from Germany. Train tickets are easy to buy online via the DSB app or Omio.
